Policy on the Use of Generative AI and Automated Tools
The Journal of Sports Research and Innovation (JSRI) recognises that authors, editors, and reviewers may use generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools and large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) in the course of their work.
Authors
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or automated tools when such tools are used beyond routine language correction, formatting, or grammar checking. The disclosure must describe which tool was used, how it was used, and which parts of the manuscript were affected.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the entire manuscript, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools. AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work and cannot meet the ICMJE criteria for authorship. AI tools cannot be cited as sources.
Editors and Reviewers
Editors and reviewers must not use generative AI tools to produce peer review reports or editorial decisions in a way that compromises confidentiality, integrity, or independent judgement. Manuscripts are confidential documents and must not be uploaded to third-party AI services that do not guarantee data protection and confidentiality.
