Abstract

Background: Physical fitness is crucial for applicants to the fire service, as it directly impacts their ability to perform demanding tasks effectively and safely. This study aimed to compare the physical performance of male applicants over two consecutive years and identify potential changes in fitness levels; Methods: A total of 118 candidates were assessed using standardized fitness tests, including a 50-meter sprint, standing long jump, sit-ups, pull-ups, the Cooper test, and a 100-meter swim. The data were analyzed using Independent Samples T-tests and Cohen’s d to evaluate statistical significance and effect sizes; Results: The results showed no statistically significant differences between the two years (p > 0.05), and all effect sizes were small; Conclusions: These findings indicate stable physical preparedness among applicants across both years. The study supports the continued use of comprehensive, multi-component fitness testing in the recruitment process and provides relevant data for monitoring physical readiness trends in the fire service.
